Cartonacci presents Mariposa
The surreal and irresistible irony of Cartonacci, stage name of Mattia Cardaioli, arrives at Romics 36 with Mariposa, his first comic book. A beloved creator on the web, Cardaioli has garnered millions of views with his short, irreverent cartoons, becoming a reference point for an ever-widening audience.
With Mariposa, published by Mondadori Electa, he brings his unmistakable style to paper, giving life to a story full of rhythm, humor and constant twists. The protagonist is Luca, a rider determined to become the best in Italy: he only needs one last effort, complete five perfect deliveries and get top marks to win a new scooter. But what seems like a milestone within reach takes an unexpected turn when a very particular pizza, Mariposa, comes into play, capable of dragging anyone, with just one taste, into extraordinary situations.
Born in Perugia in 1995, Mattia Cardaioli cultivated a passion for drawing from an early age, experimenting with different techniques and languages until he landed in animation. In 2021 he created Cartonacci, a project that quickly went viral thanks to an ironic and cutting look at contemporary reality. With this book he marks his debut in comics, keeping intact the energy that made him recognizable online.
Created in collaboration with Mondadori, the meeting will be an opportunity to discover Cartonacci's creative universe up close, including stories, curiosities, and behind-the-scenes insights into Mariposa, on a journey full of irony and surprises.
