Concept Art: bridge between imagination and design
From the idea to the design of objects, costumes, vehicles and technologies: Concept Art is the meeting point between imagination and design. Dan Walker, one of the most accomplished Concept Designers on the British film and television scene, recounts work that helped define some of the most recognizable universes of the big and small screen.
With over 75 productions under his belt, Dan Walker has worked from The Dark Knight trilogy to Star Wars and Doctor Who, through the Mission: Impossible saga and numerous Marvel and DC projects. Recent credits include Project Hail Mary, The Running Man and Star Wars: Starfighter.
Its designs are born from the comparison with the different departments of a production, from the Art Department to the VFX, up to Props, Armoury and Costume. Doctor Who's Sonic Screwdrivers, Christian Bale's Batmobile interior, Matt Damon's Mars surface suit, and Ben Affleck's Bat-Cycle bear his signature.
At Romics 37, Dan Walker will illustrate his own creative process, describing how ideas and drawings transform into narrative and visual solutions, in a meeting dedicated to Concept Art as a bridge between imagination and design to build believable and recognizable cinematic worlds.
