Francesca Ghermandi

Golden Romics of the XIV edition

Born in 1964 in Bologna. Since the mid-eighties he has collaborated with comics and illustrations for various newspapers and publishing houses in Italy and abroad including "Frigidaire", "Echo des Savanes", "il manifesto", "Comic art", "L'unità", "Linus", "Internazionale", Fantagraphics Books, Garzanti, Sinsentido, Mice Painters, Mondadori. He has published several books including: Hiawata Pete (Granata Press, 1993; Coconino press, 2008), Helter Skelter (Phoenix, 1997), Pastil vol.1, vol2 (Phoenix, 1998/2000), Bang! Sei Morto (Seuil, 2003), Pasticca (Einaudi, 2003), Grenuord, (Coconino Press, 2008), Cronache dalla palude (Coconino press, 2010); the children’s books Le avventure di Cipollino, on text by G. Rodari, Editori Riuniti, 2001, Le avventure di Ulisse, on text by R. Piumini (Editori Riuniti, 2003), Il Racconto del lombrico, on text by N. De Vita, (Orecchio Acerbo, 2008), Pronto soccorso & beauty case, on text by S. Benni (Orecchio acerbo, 2010 ); the collection of drawings Un'estate a Tombstone (Comix/D406, 2006). Personal exhibitions include: Quella teppa dei miei amichetti (2004) at the Museo dell'illustrazione in Ferrara, Un'estate a Tombstone (2006) at d406 in Modena, Cronache dalla Palude (2011) at the Galleria Squadro in Bologna, Officina Ghermandi (2012) at the Museo Civico Archeologico in Bologna. In 2005 she created the animated theme song for the 62nd Venice Film Biennale. Francesca was awarded the Golden Romics in 2013.
