Sir Ian Livingstone is one of the most influential figures in the history of gaming and interactive entertainment. As a co-founder of Games Workshop in 1975 alongside Steve Jackson, he helped bring “Dungeons & Dragons” to Europe, giving rise to franchises such as “Warhammer,” “White Dwarf,” and “Citadel Miniatures,” which forever changed the landscape of board games.
In 1982, he revolutionized the world of gamebooks with “The Warlock of Firetop Mountain,” the first volume in the legendary “Fighting Fantasy” series, which has sold over 21 million copies worldwide. As the author of some of the series’ most beloved titles, such as “Deathtrap Dungeon,” *City of Thieves*, and *Freeway Fighter*, he continues to innovate in this genre today: his famous *Freeway Fighter* will, in fact, become the first *Fighting Fantasy* title adapted as an augmented reality “Smart Book” a new format that blends print books with AR technology set to debut in 2027.

After his time at Games Workshop, Livingstone played a leading role in the founding of Eidos Interactive, helping to launch franchises that would go down in video game history, such as “Tomb Raider,” “Hitman,” and “Deus Ex.” He has always been committed to educating the next generation, championing the reform of computer science education in the United Kingdom and serving as a staunch advocate for the educational value of gaming and digital creativity. Throughout his career, he has received the BAFTA Special Award, been inducted into the “UK Video Games Hall of Fame,” and was knighted by the British Crown in 2022.
