Mariangela Zenobi
Everyone calls me Mary. Marchigiana, born in 1981, I am a small businesswoman and popularizer. In 2022, my life changed radically with the diagnosis of CIDP, a rare autoimmune neurological disease that, at its onset, caused me almost total paralysis, preventing me from even eating and seeing. Thanks to weekly plasma-derived immunoglobulin infusions-a therapy I still follow consistently-I embarked on a recovery journey that restored my autonomy and perspective. Aware that I owe my life to hundreds of anonymous donors, I turned gratitude into action by creating the @maryrunsforplasma page to thank them and raise awareness about the importance of giving. From this mission was born #plasmaforlife, a solidarity challenge that combines sport and donations: thanks to the kilometers donated through walking, swimming, and other activities-or a symbolic 100 km for each plasma donation-we are together traveling a symbolic world tour, capable of generating a domino effect of awareness. On April 26, 2026, I will participate in the London Marathon: a huge symbolic gesture to bring the value of plasma to a global stage and thank donors. My story also inspired the comic “La storia di Mary”, created by AVIS Roma with Scuola Romana dei Fumetti.
