Meeting with Yoshiko Watanabe - Illustration and Animation

Yoshiko Watanabe, Japanese illustrator, animator, and cartoonist, will be the protagonist at Romics 37 of a meeting dedicated to her extraordinary career and the art of illustration and animation, combining Japanese tradition and Italian production.
Born in 1943, she collaborated with master Osamu Tezuka on animated series that have gone down in the history of world animation, such as Astro Boy, Kimba: The White Lion and Princess Sapphire, contributing to the birth of an imaginary that has conquered entire generations.
A meeting to retrace his artistic and creative journey, exploring the relationship between comics, illustration, and animation: from character construction to drawing techniques, to the evolution of the visual languages that have shaped the history of anime.
Having moved to Rome in the 1970s, in the 1980s she drew the comic series Masters of the Universe for Editoriale Domus and subsequently collaborated on important Italian animated productions such as La Freccia Azzurra, La Gabbianella e il Gatto and Aida degli Alberi. Throughout his career he published for numerous publishing houses, including Narwain Publishing, Kappa Edizioni, Edizioni BD, GP Publishing and Star Comics, combining his artistic activity with that of a teacher at the Roman School of Comics.
