Romics Special Award to Dan Walker: From Concept Design to the Great Icons of Cinema

Dan Walker, one of Britain’s leading Concept Designers for film and television, will receive the Romics Special Award on the occasion of the 37th edition of Romics.

With a career spanning more than 75 film and television productions, Walker has contributed to the creation of the visual imagery of some of the most celebrated franchises of recent decades. His designs and illustrations have helped shape universes such as The Dark Knight Trilogy, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Mission: Impossible, as well as numerous Marvel and DC productions, making him one of the leading professionals on the international concept design scene.

Throughout his career, he has worked closely with art departments, VFX, props, armoury and costume departments, transforming ideas and narrative concepts into objects, vehicles, costumes and technologies that have become an integral part of the visual identity of films and TV series. Among his most iconic works are the Sonic Screwdrivers of the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors in Doctor Who, the interiors of Christian Bale’s Batmobile, the Mars surface suit worn by Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck’s Bat-Cycle.

His journey continues today with major international productions: his most recent concept designs can be seen in Project Hail Mary, The Running Man and the highly anticipated Star Wars: Starfighter, further confirming his ability to contribute to the visual construction of worlds, characters and objects destined for the big screen.
