Romics Special to Cassandra Calin: Webcomic humor that chronicles everyday life
Cartoonist and illustrator Cassandra Calin will receive the Romics Special Award at the 36th edition in April.
Internationally known for the webcomic series Cassandra Comics, Cassandra Calin has won millions of readers on social media thanks to her immediate and ironic style and short, semi-autobiographical stories that lightly and authentically recount the small challenges of everyday life: from hard-to-tame curly hair to social expectations, to the insecurities and comical situations that are part of the experience of many.
In 2024, she published her first graphic novel, The New Girl, a story inspired by her personal experience migrating from Romania to Canada during her childhood. The book sensitively and humorously addresses themes such as identity, adaptation, and a sense of belonging, confirming its ability to transform personal experiences into universal stories.
His training in Graphic Design at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) helped define a clean and expressive visual style, perfect for a direct and immediate story that engages with contemporary audiences.
At Romics 36, Cassandra Calin will be the subject of audience meetings, signing sessions, and a dedicated exhibition that will retrace her work through webcomics and graphic novels, offering visitors the opportunity to enter her creative universe.
