Stefano Bessoni: illustration and Stop Moption

Fairy tales, anatomies, creatures and macabre suggestions populate Stefano Bessoni's personal wunderkammer. Director, writer, illustrator and animator, a Romics 37 tells a creative journey where illustration and stop motion meet in an unmistakable visual universe.
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, he has been experimenting with cinema, illustration, and animation since the late 1980s. After collaborating with Pupi Avati, he directed feature films such as Fragments of Inexact Sciences, Imago Mortis and Krokodyle, combining cinema with a long research in illustration and stop motion.
At the heart of his work is the wunderkammer, the “chamber of wonders”, a space where art, science, and disturbing imagery intertwine. His journey includes illustrated books, exhibitions and international collaborations, including one with Peter Greenaway for He Read Deep Into The Night.

The meeting will be an opportunity to explore Stefano Bessoni's imagination and delve deeper into the relationship between drawing and animation, between techniques, inspirations, and suggestions that shape characters and stories suspended between poetry and restlessness.
