Gabriele Dell’Otto

Golden Romics of the XX edition

His artistic career, now almost twenty years old, began in Rome where he was born on 20 December 1973, with scientific illustrations for teaching manuals. In front of his talent, however, soon open the doors of the great Italian publishing houses and begins to make covers and comic boards for Sergio Bonelli Publisher: Dylan Dog and Orphans, up to reach the great international publishers and then Marvel Comics Secret war, X-Force: Sex And Violence, Avengers annual,  Avenging Spider-Man 14 and 15, Amazing Spider-Man: Family Business. He also made the covers of some books (Estrella by Ermanno Detti and The extraordinary life of Tell Jordan by Francesco Sicheri), magazines (Wizard, ESPN Magazine) and video games (Activision). The mastery in the use of colors and dark light makes his characters mysterious, fascinating and extraordinarily impressive. All this emerges also in the simplest works such as the Calendar of the Carabinieri (2002, 2003), but it becomes particularly evident in the homage to the fantastic and the most beloved fairy tales (Tales, 2007; Oz, 2013) and the great Greek classics (Titans, 2008, Ulysses, 2008). The Art of Gabriele Dell'Otto manages to give shape and color to extraordinary scenarios of literature. In 2014 he illustrated the First Canticle of the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (Inferno, 2014), followed by the subsequent corollary of a new edition of Dante’s masterpiece. Many of the illustrations made in these years by Dell'Otto have been collected in precious and now very rare art books (Marvel Vision, The Marvel Art of Gabriele Dell'Otto) or in prints and portfolios (Cyborg 2009, Villains 2010, XXL 2011, Dark Side 2012, Wide Vision 2013, Galavy, 2014; Star Wars, 2015) published by Ottava Legio, the official fan club of Gabriele Dell'Otto, who for ten years has been actively supporting and collaborating in the dissemination and enhancement of the artist’s heterogeneous production.
